IBM Extends Bob AI Platform With Array of New Features

IBM on Thursday released a series of major updates to IBM Bob, the agentic software development platform that debuted earlier this year.

Initially hailed as a “collaborative AI coding helper” for enterprises, the latest iteration of Bob goes some way beyond that by providing what IBM calls a unified foundation that enables extensive coordination among teams when developing software.

Among the key new features are multi-agent functionality, integrated cost and use monitoring, and specialized, built-in workflows to modernize enterprise systems.

According to IBM, with organizations now using AI to write large amounts of code, reviewing and validating it is increasingly a priority — and that’s where Bob steps in.

Bob offers the ability to match specific models to tasks and coordinate execution among agents, significantly reducing the time required to perform tasks, IBM said.

The deployment of subagents to manage context at scale — by reducing the size of the context window — also produces quicker responses.

The updated Bob also includes pre-built workflows that can be customized and adapted for enterprises’ own environments, plus a comprehensive assessment of outcomes using the newly launched Bobalytics — which IBM said delivers greater visibility into productivity, quality and performance, enabling closer monitoring of costs.

IBM also revealed three “Bob Premium Packages,” each focusing on different areas and geared toward helping enterprises modernize legacy applications.

The IBM Bob Premium Package for Java Modernization, IBM Bob Premium Package for I, and the IBM Bob Premium Package for Z extend Bob’s capabilities with expertise and AI development optimized for their specific domains.

IBM is hoping to attract new customers by offering a 40-day free trial of Bob, which is available now.
