Spanish Startup Xoople Lands $130M to Build Satellites for AI

The new funding brings the vendor’s total investment to $225 million for its goal of creating a satellite constellation to map the earth for AI.

The constellation will be built around Xoople’s EarthAI platform, built on Microsoft Azure and designed to collect precise, real-time data from the earth’s surface to better inform increasingly popular agentic AI systems.

Founded in 2019, the startup has been working to create a continuous data layer of physical changes on earth that is designed specifically for machine learning. After seven years of development, Xoople is set to commercialize its tech stack this quarter.

Currently, the technology offers access to satellite imagery from government agencies such as the European Space Agency, translating the information into datasets that can be used by AI for environmental monitoring and risk prediction tasks.

With the latest funding the company now hopes to sell data from its own earth observation constellation. In a release, Xoople said the constellation will expand enterprise access to physical world intelligence to “power the AI and agentic revolutions.”

An exact launch date for the constellation has not been disclosed.

“Every major computing era creates a new system of record; those that define that system become the economic centers of that era,” Fabrizio Pirondini, CEO of Xoople, said in a statement. “Cloud platforms create systems of record for software and data. We are building the system of record for the physical world in the AI era.”

The company positions its tech as offering access to reliable and transparent data at a time where companies are increasingly relying on agentic and autonomous agents — with oversight and governance into these systems top of mind for businesses wanting to scale tech sustainably. In essence, AI can only be as good as the data it’s trained on.

In this landscape, proprietary datasets that connect digital systems and the physical world (what Xoople calls the Earth’s System of Record) are emerging as a critical source of advantage. The company says it expects these systems to be transformative in connecting AI more securely with the physical world.

Possible applications include government agencies and major corporations looking to optimize supply chains and infrastructure, as well as agricultural forecasting and resource planning, insurance risk modelling and urban planning.

Also on Monday, the company said it entered into a deal with U.S. space and defense contractor L3Harris Technologies to build sensors for its satellite constellation.
